Elsa and family Rehomed and Sanctuary
This group of 10 hamsters had been bought at an animal auction and then abandoned at someone's home. They were kept in a mixed group, so were stressed and overcrowded. We collected the group and took half to another rescue. The remaining 5 were split into separate cages, given medical attention, quarantined and screened for behaviour and pregnancy.
3 of these hamsters were able to finding loving new homes, to give them plenty of attention and enrichment.
2 of the group had health issues that meant they stayed here in Sanctuary.
Further Details
There was a mixture of characters in this family group, Elsa the oldest mum was a very strong character as was dad Christoph. All these hamsters were very underweight and needed extra attention to bring them up to good health. The smallest of the group, Ana, sadly died soon after rescue in Sanctuary. Christoph and two of his family were homed to separate loving homes and lived to good ages.
These hamsters are hybrids, so at increased risk of diabetes so needed careful weight and health monitoring. As they had some winter white in them Elsa and a daughter did noticable change coat colour during the winter months.
