Scruff and family Rehomed and Sanctuary

This family group came into rescue when their owner went into a retirement home. They had been loved but their needs and diet had not been met for some time and they needed instant vet treatment. We split into same-sex groups as the boys are unneutered, with the girls staying with us until their (long!) pregnancy watch was over.

Chinchilla

2 of the group, Scruff and Boots, were able to be homed to separate homes to be bonded to other Chinchillas of the same sex.

The remaining family members stayed here in Sanctuary due to ongoing health issues.

Further Details

These Chinchillas had been fed on rabbit food and were extremely underweight. We were able to build their weight back up on a suitable diet with regular weight check-ins. Coat condition improved with sand-baths and hair-pulling reduced as they got used to their larger cage and new situations.

SweetPie was a young male born without eyes, as an extremely stressed young male he had never been successfully handled. His eyes were badly infected, so he had multiple courses of medication to clear this up. Vet visits and giving the treatment he found extremely stressful, so we decided to keep him here in Sanctuary with his Dad since he would not become used to another home. He did become used to our voices, and we able to keep stress on food and cage cleans to a minimum by chatting to him for some time before opening the cage.

Calder Rehomed

Calder came to us due to his specialist needs. He is missing the tip of his tail due to a healed tail injury from where he was previously kept in unsuitable housing. He is a young adult and extremely shy.

Acacia Rat

Calder was homed to a person experienced with exotics and able to keep up with his needs and work on his confidence.

Further Details

Calder is extremely shy and will need time to learn confidence around his humans. He likes having a choice of nests to sleep in and plenty of climbing opportunities such as rope toys. He hasn't shown much interest in a wheel yet.

Calder's new humans will need to be patience with him and understand if he likes free-roaming but doesn't want to be handled. He requires a large cage with plenty to do and a varied diet.

Percy Rehomed

Percy came to us due to the owners change in circumstances. Roborovskis are often handed in at Crittery due to their speed, as they can be difficult to handle. Percy is no exception to this, he is a speedy chap who needs a calm environment.

Roborovski Hamster

Percy has been homed to a new owner who has provided him with plenty of space and enrichment.

Further Details

Percy is a young Roborovski hamster who is used to a large cage. He need plenty of room to burrow and is extremely active. Percy is not used to handling and great care should be taken with this, to avoid falls or additional stress.

Luna, Loki and Lola Sanctuary

These three Chinchillas came to us due to their owners health conditions. They are mum Luna and her daughter Lola and neutered son Loki. They are healthy and active Chinchillas.

Chinchilla

This family group captured our families hearts and have stayed with us.

Further Details

Luna had some initial eye issues that have been treated and the three get on very well together. Son Loki is neutered, and is the first to demand treats. Lola is the first to demand time out of the cage and Luna simply wants to be left in peace.

Crittery has a great deal of animals in Sanctuary due to their ongoing health issues, behaviour issues, specialist needs or simply because of their age. We give many animals end of life care and this can be extremely draining on us as a family. Sometimes we adopt animals to remind us of the love of animals that drives us to do this as this helps us continue to provide the additional care and cope with the emotional, time and financial cost these cases incurr.

Sometimes, also animals come along that simply do not give us a choice. They claim us!
